1950-06 from the abolished Kaunas county 27 and Vilkija county 5
Kaunas district formed by the surrounding area (until 1955-07 it was called Vilijampolės
district). The area was 626 km2. The center is Kaunas. 1950 was 1 city
type settlement - Kulautuva. In 1950–53 it belonged to the Kaunas region. At the end of 1954

surroundings. In 1955, after the annexation of Vilijampolė district, Panemunė district was abolished
16 precincts and Kačerginė settlement, after transferring 2 precincts of Vilijampolė district
Jonava district, Vilijampole district is named Kaunas district. 1956 Lake

Through the territory of Kaunas district municipality in a semi-circle, Nemunas and Neris valleys
on the right banks, the Vilkija ridge continues. It (near Lapia) has
the highest place in the municipality is 112 meters. The ridge separates the lowlands of Nevėžys
the southern edge (in the north of the municipal territory) from the Užnemunė lowland
(in the west) and from the lowlands of the Neris River (in the east). Both recent lows

Forest coverage 30.8% (the western part is the most forested); the largest forests -
Varluva, Babti, Padauguva, Karalgiris, Zapyškis, Paris forests, Dubravas
